Carpet One: Welcome Mat Collection
Carpet One Floor & Home: Welcome a Cure Welcome Mat Collection 2017-18
"Ribbon of Hope"
Unbelievably honored to aid in this effort to support and create positivity.
My design was chosen to be a part of this collection to help fund for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The meaning:
(BIO from Carpet One in 2017)
A compelling image of intersecting white strands and a pink ribbon on a stark black background reveal artist Mikayla Chandler’s unique impression of breast cancer. These simple, yet powerful lines, drawn to resemble the shape of the breast, the curve of the iconic ribbon and wisps of hair bring a unique artistic vision to Carpet One’s Welcome A Cure Welcome Mat collection. Mikayla is a sophomore studying advertising and illustration at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) and was one of two dozen artists who shared their vision earlier this year. The new mat will be featured with those of other interior designers and graphic artists in the 2017 Welcome A Cure Mat Collection that debuts in stores to coincide with October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Art is a strong, visual medium, ideal for communicating important messages. I believe that art encourages a range of different perspectives, as seen by each individual viewer, and can create a greater understanding of humanity,” says Mikayla. “Art is a universal language. It is a mechanism that can address and impact a wide range of topics and values.”
Pink ribbon welcome mats are available year round at Carpet One Floor & Home stores for approximately $24.99US/$34.99CDN, with 25% of each mat’s proceeds donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to fund research for the disease that affects one in eight women. Since 2004, Carpet One’s Welcome a Cure Welcome Mats have raised almost a million dollars towards BCRF’s research programs.
